Ochre California Poppies Robe
About
We collaborated with LACMA to create a stunning collection of textiles inspired by William Morris’s “Textile Rose” pattern, featured in the museum’s Deep Cuts 2025-2026 exhibit. In place of Morris’s English roses, we drew from the California poppies and Matilija poppies of our own LA backyards.
This exquisite robe was designed exclusively for LACMA, to accompany the wallpaper we made for the exhibit. Each piece is printed and dyed by hand in small batches, and celebrates the rich history, process, and materials of hand block printing.

Process
To make our block printed fabric, each design is traced onto a wooden slab, which then is carved by hammer and chisel into a printing block. The block is then printed meticulously by hand using soft, AZO-free, non toxic pigment.
Variation in printing & color are hallmarks of hand block printing and dyeing in small batches.
Care
Machine wash cold gentle cycle with like colors.
Lay flat to dry or tumble dry low.
Iron on appropriate setting if needed.
