Palio di Siena Dinner Plate
About
First held in 1656, The Palio di Siena, otherwise known as "Il Palio", is one of the oldest and most famous horse races in the world. Held twice a year on July 2 and August 16 on The Piazza del Campo in Siena, Italy to honor The Virgin Mary, this bareback horse race is a battle between the 17 Contrade (neighborhoods) of Siena.
Today, the ceramics are made by Fratelli Mari Maioliche, one of the oldest and most prestigious companies producing fine, handcrafted majolica. Every single piece is hand painted by the artists at the Fratelli Mari factory located in Deruta, Italy.

Process
To make our block printed fabric, each design is traced onto a wooden slab, which then is carved by hammer and chisel into a printing block. The block is then printed meticulously by hand using soft, AZO-free, non toxic pigment.
Variation in printing & color are hallmarks of hand block printing and dyeing in small batches.
